I’ve been very neglective of my blog the past week. Sorry. I tend to write and post at night, and lately I’ve been actually journaling in my new notebook.
Last week Erica got us these little spiral notebooks for stuff to write in during small group. We decorated them and make them all girly and cute. Well, i decided that i wanted to expand on it. I’ve been reading this book lately and the two things together made me really excited.
The book is Living for Jesus Beyond the Spiritual High by Greg Speck. I love it because Elevation on Sundays is a constant high point for me, but by Tuesday night I’m already forgetting what I heard on Sunday and to pray every day (and eventually continually). Well, for a while I’ve wanted to keep a journal for prayers and sermons so I’ll be more likely to keep track of both. Greg Speck says that it’s a good idea to keep a prayer journal that way I can keep up better with answered prayers. If i pray abotu something tuesday night and then the following week God answers, I’ll be able to remember it and be even more excited for all the prayers God answers.
Not only do I keep a log of my prayers, I’ve decided to bring back some of my high school note taking strategies. My sophomore english teacher Mrs. Putnam (who I really hated at the time) had us takes notes on ones side of our note books and put collages, character studies, vocab, pictures, or anything else visual on the other side. So every Sunday I’ll go to a new two pages in my note book. Left side for visual, right side for sermon notes. I put in all the verses pastor touched on and a few pictures of some real life examples he gave. Like sunday he talked about David and Goliath and how David was trained really by all the bears and lions he killed tending sheep. He connected that to the Karate Kid “wax on, wax off” thing. I have pictures of both.
I’m so excited for my journal. I wont get to see a sermon on Sunday, but i fully intend to watch it online so that I don’t have a hole in my journal. It should last me a few months before i get to start a new one all over again!
Speaking of Sunday, I’m leading large group on Sunday for Quest and I’m very excited for that. I love it so much. I’m going in early to help do the actual set up of the room because Rachel is going to be out of town. Me and Bridgette are trying to take care of pretty much everything so that Teri can just take it easy this week. Her grandmother finally passed this weekend, and another way we can continue to show her love and support is to try to ease her responsibilites this week. That way she doesn’t have to run around looking for props or owrrying about set up on Sunday. She deserves to just take it easy.
Well, I think that’s about all the typing i feel like tonight. I’m off to write all my prayers out in my beautiful journal !!!
